Wordless Wednesday

Or, the things you will find at a Christmas Tree Shop in Falmouth.
These pictures made the rainy, 50 degree weather bearable.
Yes, that was a pun. Get it? BEARable?

Yup, I don't understand them either.

A Little of This and That

April was one of my very first "blog friends" and has one of the most addicting blogs I've ever read (and I read A LOT). She's always posting fun outfits, interesting craft projects, music, and of course, lots and lots of pictures, which is one of my favorite things about her blog. I love love love her! She is my sweet Southern blog sister, so I decided I wanted to thank her for her many kindnesses with an interview here on Kindly, Kate. Drumroll please........
I give you....

April! of A Little of This and That

Hi, I'm April from A Little of This and That. I started my blog about 10 months ago with every intention of just allowing it to be a space where I type/sort my thoughts out. What it has turned into is a bit of a hodge-podge of things...or, a little bit of this and a little bit of that. ;) On my blog you'll find posts about fashion, shopping, baking, crafts, diy projects, faith, photography, music and maybe even a book review or two. I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina and often like to blogplain (my made up word for blog-complain) about the heat and humidity, but I love living here. I have a dog-child named Hewitt whom I adopted 4 years ago. He is the Forrest Gump of the canine world, but I wouldn't change a single thing about him. Well, y'all, that's me and my blog in a nutshell!

 1. Your favorite thing to cook (recipe welcomed!) Well, you technically don't "cook" cookies, you bake them. But then, why are they called COOKies? One of life's great mysteries, I guess. I never pass up an opportunity to bake cookies. My fave? Tollhouse Chocolate Chip cookies. Yup. You know, the recipe that's on the back of the bag of morsels? There's no shame in my game. I'm not trying to pass it off as my great-great Aunt Bootsy's recipe either. My secret to making them even better? Well, it's not a secret, but I use REAL butter (not margarine) and I use kosher salt. It gives them a bit of a different taste but I LURVE it!

 2. You have a hot date tonight with the bf- what are you wearing? On my with The B, I'm wearing my standard summer fare: first and foremost, always a cardigan. I literally have cardigans in every color of the rainbow. So, the cardi gets paired with a skirt, solid tank and ballet flats or dark jeans, an embellished tank and pumps depending on where we're going.

 3. What's your favorite way to waste time? Wasting time is something I don't do well...I always feel guilty for doing it. However, it is a necessity sometimes. My favorite ways to waste time are reading (magazines, books, other blogs) watching television and looking at hilarious Youtube videos.

 4. Favorite quote from your favorite movie. Wow, this is really hard. I have lots of favorite movies along many genres. I really love Pride and Predjudice (2005). I love when Mr. Darcy says to Elizabeth, "I love you...most ardently." What girl DOESN'T swoon when he says that? But in the same respect, I also love Ace Ventura, Dumb & Dumber and School of Rock and quote from those frequently. "Our pets HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!" ;)

 5. 3 makeup/products that you can't live without. 1. Lip stuff. (chapstick, gloss, lipstick, etc) My paleness reaches astounding levels if I don't have my "lips" on. :) 2. Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer. It has built in SPF 20 and its light enough to wear every day under my makeup. 3. Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals foundation. I could be in one of those commercials because I love that stuff so much. I've tried to find comparable products but none of them have the same results on my skin.

 6. If you could have a theme song playing in the background of your life, what would it be? This changes throughout the day. (Is it sad that I've actually thought about this a lot before?) Currently, I'd go with 2001: A Space Odyssey. HA!

7. Favorite guilty pleasure tv show (or shows- I won't judge :) Well, I absolutely love and cherish The Office. I have all the seasons on DVD and [still] watch it even though Steve Carell is no longer on the show. I really like NCIS and Modern Family too. I also have been known to get sucked into Say Yes to the Dress and My Fair Wedding marathons.

 8. 3 celebrities you could have dinner with. A lot of thought went into this. First off, I assume we're talking about celebrities who are alive, right? Okay, so I would say Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Lautner (I know...but at least he's over 18 now...) and my beloved Drew Brees. But on second thought, I'd univite Reese because she's charming and I'd want to be the only girl there. (I know...shallow...) So in her place, I'd invite Ed Helms. (Andy from The Office)

 9. Middle name and nicknames. My middle name is Anne. I have many nicknames but most notably I answer to "Lirpa"(April spelled backwards), "Geegs", "Apes", "Lizard", "Liz" and "Lirps".

 10. You're at an ice cream parlor- what do you order? At Coldstone (do y'all have those?) I always get a Like It size scoop of plain ol' chocolate with either Oreo Cookies or Cookie Dough as a mix in. But I've also been known to entertain the idea of a Mint Chocolate Chip before too. So, I guess it depends on my mood at the time.

Do you not all LURVE her super dooper much like I do?!? Head on over and follow her here

xoxo Kate

To My Dad...

Here's to you Dad- the man who taught me the importance of making hors d'oeuvres before a meal and taking a walk in the salt air afterwards, how to throw and catch a baseball, how to cast and bait, and how to make a simple bowl of ice cream into a 4-star dessert.

It hasn't always been perfect, but it works for us. Love you!

My laptop Mandy...

I regret to inform you all that my laptop, Mandy, is no longer with us. She is in the land of the Geek Squads, who told me that they're sending Mandy out and will probably call me in a week to tell me that can't fix her. They will then ask me to come to their store and pick out a brand-spankin' new one! So I am not so mad at my cat Jeeves for knocking over the glass of water onto her and effectively frying her.

I know you all are wondering why her name is Mandy (ok, maybe you're not, but I'm going to tell you anyway.) When I first got Mandy, she was a beautiful new white Macbook. I had just started dating my Handsome, and he lent me his book of cd's so I could put new music on my new laptop. Well, lo and behold, what cd did I find buried in with his? Why yes, the cd pictured at the beginning of this post. I thought this was hysterical, and because it was a white cd and my laptop was white, I named her Mandy. It seemed to fit.
When I get a new laptop, I will need a new name for him/her. Do you guys name your inatimate objects? If so, which objects do you name and what are the names? xoxoxo

Top 5 Tuesday!

This is my very first Top 5 Tuesday post. I was inspired by A Little of This and That, because she always has the most interesting Top 5's. She's also done outfits inspired by Disney princesses and villians, which I adore! You can check them out hereherehere, and here. Love her!

So here are my Top 5 things I'm loving right now...

1. New haircuts- I spontaneously cut 7 inches of mah hurr two days ago and I've been dying to show you all a picture! A new haircut always make me feel so free and happy.

2. Cape Cod- I've never been, but I'm going for the first time this weekend with my boyfriend and his parents to visit his brother, who has a new job working at the Marine Biological Laboratory. We're staying here and I couldn't be more excited!

3. Poppies- my red poppies just bloomed and I am completely enamored of them! I can't stop taking pictures of them and will definitely do a post with garden pictures this week. For now, this will have to do. Picture from here.

4. Flip flops- up here in New England, we start wearing flip flops when there might still be vestiges of snow on the ground. But now, it seems that spring has finally sprung and the weather will reliably be in the 60's. Which means non-stop flip flop action for me, except for when I'm at work and rock my classic Sperry Topsiders or my Chucks. Yay for flip flops! Right now I'm going the boring route, because I haven't had a chance to run to Old Navy and stock up.

5. Family- I am always lovin' my family, but right now I've been able to see my dad's side quite often these past couple weeks. Once for my grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary, and once for Jen and Jake's high school graduation. Lots of laughs with our fam! Looking forward to seeing some of my mum's side in Atlanta soon.
